We have various activities to take part on the first weekend of May!
Come along with friends or family to learn more about our soils and its importance, about the recommended apple and pear tree varieties of the area or sow the first seeds to the raised beds to get growing!
Events schedule – booking via Eventbrite:
1st of May @ 11.00-1.00 pm: Saturday’s Soil Sampling with David Shannon
Come and join us to get your hands dirty! We will look at the soil characteristics such as texture and pH with David Shannon at St Fitticks’ Edible Garden this Saturday.
We will find out what type of soil we have on site and what type of soil is likely to be in your garden. He will also talk about the organisms in the soil and their role and why compost is important. There will be some wriggly worms, too!

2nd of May @1pm-3.00pm: Fascinating Fruit Trees – tree planting with Brian Allan and Neil Clapperton from Social Juice.
Join us for planting our first apple and pear fruit trees at St Fitticks’ Edible Garden this Sunday led by Brian Allan and Neil Clapperton!
They are talking about the recommended apple and pear tree varieties in the area, how to select their location and what to be aware of when planting them.
The first tree will be planted in the memory of June, who was one of the ladies form the Older People Network, who were working on turning the St Fitticks’ site onto a community orchard and garden. She sadly passed away earlier this year.
There will be opportunities to plant raspberry canes and we also provide equipment for litter picking and stone clearing.
