Cultivate Aberdeen is Cleaning Up and Greening Up!
Cultivate Aberdeen has joined Keep Scotland Beautiful’s celebration of community environmental improvement this year by registering to take part in the It’s Your Neighbourhood initiative.
Administered by environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful, in partnership with the Royal Horticultural Society, It’s Your Neighbourhood supports and rewards community projects across Scotland which strive to make their local places cleaner and greener.
Evidence shows communities benefit from coming together to improve their local environments and Cultivate Aberdeen is seeking to do just that by joining hundreds of others to celebrate the 2021 theme: Climate and Nature Friendly. By planting seeds, organising awareness raising environmental campaigns, and engaging with the wider community, volunteers from Cultivate Aberdeen, largely based at our St Fitticks’ Edible Garden will work hard to improve the places they care for.
Designed for community groups seeking to make environmental improvements, the non-competitive It’s Your Neighbourhood initiative celebrates, supports and empowers those cleaning and greening up the places they care for. Projects in previous years have sought to improve local streets, patches of communal neglected land, and shared outdoor spaces.
Juliette Camburn, Community Projects Officer at Keep Scotland Beautiful said: “It’s Your Neighbourhood is all about celebrating pride in our local neighbourhoods. Volunteer groups work hard to support community participation through gardening and good environmental practices. Evidence from participants in previous years has demonstrated transformational benefits to local communities.
“Keep Scotland Beautiful is delighted that Cultivate Aberdeen is taking part this year and I’d like to thank all the entrants for their ongoing commitment to keeping Scotland beautiful.”
George Bellamy, Founder and Chairman of Cultivate Aberdeen said: “We’re delighted to be a part of Keep Scotland Beautiful and to celebrate the success of our community coming together to create something wonderful for others – our Edible Garden. By being connected in this network we feel we can strengthen our partnerships and resolve and share knowledge for this to be a lasting project generating a lasting positive impact for both the community and its environment”.
The effort of all It’s Your Neighbourhood entrants is supporting Keep Scotland Beautiful to tackle climate change and improve the places where we live and work.
