It’s Your Neighbourhood Award

Torry welcome judges ‘thriving’ assessment of community growing space

Cultivate Aberdeen has joined Keep Scotland Beautiful’s celebration of community environmental improvement this year by registering to take part in the It’s Your Neighbourhood initiative.

Administered by environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful, in partnership with the Royal Horticultural Society, It’s Your Neighbourhood supports and rewards community projects across Scotland which strive to make their local places cleaner and greener.

St Fitticks’ Edible Garden, Cultivate Aberdeen’s maiden community project was visited by local KSB judges and awarded a coveted ‘Level 4 – Thriving’ award for their impressive achievements in transforming the former council depot on St Fitticks’ Road into a thriving community garden space. The award is judged looking at three specific areas; community participation, environmental responsibility, and gardening achievement.

George Bellamy, Founder and Chair of Cultivate Aberdeen, said “this has been the first year that we’ve entered and welcomed the Keep Scotland Beautiful judges and we are thrilled to have received such a glowing report and advice on how to continue to grow our community efforts.”

“We hope this certificate and the community response will give our volunteers proud recognition for all the tremendous work they have done to transform this space.”

Cultivate Aberdeen was set up in 2018 and is a volunteer-led charity working to provide food growing and sustainable practice education and facilities across the city. Anyone interested in joining can email: info@cultivateaberdeen.co.uk or visit www.cultivateaberdeen.co.uk.
